My Story
I’m all caught up logging my 31 rides for 2025! And it's turned in to a pretty sweet ending if I do say so myself. My total ride is now 1,010.0 km. It feels good, this is better than what I did in 2019, in spite of the two concussions, two TBI's, broken bones and all that came with that and even another issue on top of all that that I've not talked about here. A big thank you to those who rooted for me, encouraged me, supported me, met up with me during a ride... it all helps me to get out every day and do it! And thank you to those who have donated to the cause, it helps kids fight much more than anything I’ve had to deal with, and as you’ve heard numerous times here, “kids should be living life, not fighting for it”. I love cycling and I love that I can use it to raise funds to help children in their fight against cancer, the largest killer of children from disease in Canada. If you know me, you know I prefer to participate in fundraisers related to kids. This is my 3rd time doing this ride and so far I’ve raised over $2,000 for SickKids Foundation. In 2016 my daughter Caitlin and I started a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and the Ottawa Child’s Treatment Centre and we raised over $1,200 from the proceeds of selling copies of a photo book we published together, Father Daughter Perspective. Caitlin, who has Cerebral Palsy, was a patient at both CHEO and OCTC.
My profile shows a 5 year legacy, but it's only 2, this year is my 3rd. After my 1st ride in 2019, I got a concussion in an unrelated incident. Just before I started my ride in 2020 I had a 2nd concussion and broke a rib, due to a cycling accident. In spite of trying I wasn’t able to ride again until 2024, and now here we are my 2025 ride is done. “I'm 10-10 on the side.”!
