I'm Riding For
In memory of Dad, for Heidi and for all the children who have are so brave and strong.

I didn't know much about cancer until my Dad had a re occurrence in 2009. He suffered so terribly, without a word of complaint. New Year's Eve 2009 his oncologist gave him the news that any further Chemo would kill him, and we knew that without treatment he would die. I'm sorry that I didn't understand more during his first cancer, didn't walk beside him when he got involved in tributes and challenges for survivors and patients. I understand more now. I admire you for being so strong Dad, and miss you. During the last year I have begun following many children and their families and joining with thousands of people who pray and encourage them. I have learned more than I ever wanted to know about cancer and the terrible treatments patients endure on their journey. Work by dedicated persons in research and development of better, more effective and less invasive treatments leading to cures are in desperate need of our support, especially for children's cancers.
My Story
Branson
30 Aug 2025
Today, August 30th, Branson is receiving cells from his Mother, hoping this will put him on the healing road. They travelled to Italy to pursue special treatments there. Finally he underwent total body irradiation and his Mom went through a series of injections to boost her cells for the transfer. We all hope this will restore him to health, give him his vision back and let him move on to living the way an 11 year old boy should.

Why participate?
5 Aug 2022
https://greatcyclechallenge.ca/Riders/LucienRuet
This year GCC is living up to the name "Challenge."
I wasn't sure if I could take it on. I know it is a fundraiser, but I think for us as riders it is also a personal challenge : physically and emotionally. It is a time of deep reflection on Children's cancers, the experiences of the children and their families, and the flooding thoughts of the children I pray for, following their journey, and remembering the precious ones who died. We may all have different experiences with the disease and reasons to participate in an event to raise funds to further research for cures and less invasive treatments.
Donations can be made through the link on my page. I can also accept donations by e-transfer (contact me for the address), cash, or cheque (made out to Lucien Ruet) and I will send your donation in. Your receipt for tax purposes will be sent to your address (or e-address) from the Challenge office.
Thanks everyone, Lou

Rolled over $1000.00, together.
1 Sep 2025With all of your help we have raised more than double my goal for this year. I am struggling to get my kilometres in, it has been a hard summer for riding. Even if it takes another month, just like everyone fighting cancer with awful treatments, I will finish. Maybe some of us can cycle together and hit a 6 year total of 1000 kilometres to encourage the kids, family members and other friends who are living in this cancer nightmare.
