I’m riding in honour of several family members and friends this year, but am unsure if they want their names published on this page. Below is a photo of my father and I when I was quite young. My father died due to lung cancer at age 59.

My Story

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! This is my seventh year participating!

Why? Because right now, many Canadian children are diagnosed with some form of cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, and not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through this challenge to help these kids and support the SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me in this cause by making a donation (any amount is appreciated) to the Sick Kids Foundation to help give these kids the brighter futures they deserve. You will immediately receive a receipt for tax purposes too. Your support will change little lives.

My Challenge

Ride 6 - Amherst Island - Goal Achieved!!

Today was my last ride and I achieved my distance goal! Weather was awesome, not a cloud in the sky. I inadvertently herded a couple of sheep that had strayed out of their field onto the roadside to enjoy the variety in diet. As soon as they saw me cycling towards them they turned around and started running back to the fence opening that had enabled their original escape. I slowed down enough so they thought I was there to get them back into the field. We also saw a fox drinking by the lakeshore within the bird sanctuary.

Ride 5 - Amherst Island South Shore

Early start today….7:30 AM ferry…..cool and breezy (16C, 17Km NE) this morning for this ride. Headwind on the outbound wearing a fleece and a tailwind without the fleece on the return. Windmills are spinning….Quiet otherwise except for the waves crashing on the shore and passing a flock of bleating sheep on the Willard Farm. Today is my sister’s birthday (Lynda)!

Ride 4 - Millhaven & Taylor Kidd Blvd.

Today started fairly overcast and cool with relatively low winds so I decided to make the short drive out to Millhaven to get in a quick 13.5 km (every little bit helps!). I met another GCC cyclist going in the opposite direction (he had a GCC jersey on) so cheered him on. Cooler temperature today (19C @ 10 AM) was much appreciated!

Ride 3 - Amherst Island South Shore

Cycled the south shore of Amherst Island this morning with my cycle buddy Pat for 15.5 KM. It was warm but calm on the lake. We saw a hawk, ducks, and cormorants and stopped at the new market building to purchase a pie from my cousin’s Karen and Wayne who make the most awesome pies on the planet!

Ride 2 - Long Sault Parkway

Today (August 14) I cycled the Long Sault Parkway along the St. Lawrence River with my cycling buddies. Warm temperatures today but not the hot weather we’ve had the past week or so. I didn’t take too many photos but did get in a group photo at the sign without our cycling gear! Great place to ride if you’ve never tried it (10 minutes from Cornwall) and close to Upper Canada Village!

Ride 1 - Amherst Island South Shore

6 Aug 2025

Did my first kickoff ride today. Took the ferry to Amherst Island early and cycled the south shore. I had a headwind on the outbound, tailwind back. Saw a deer, a fox, two swans flying close to me, sheep, cattle, purple martins, and a garter snake… pretty awesome for the first ride… and NO cars.
