My Story

18 Aug 2025

YEAR 5

This ride caught my attention a few years ago. I thought I would join, make a contribution, give me some time to think about my "Mom" and stay active. It is something bigger now, I never meant to ask people to support (an individual choice right), I never intended to "blog" but I started to think more about my Mom, my family members, hockey teammates and then we all have stories from friends about cancer's impact on their lives and families.

Nobody should have to deal with cancer. Cancer is one brilliant action (accidental or not) by a mind greater than mine to having a solution! Lets' crush cancer!

Check out my nephew, Nathan Tratnik. He is riding out of Victoria BC.

Breathe deeply, smile often, find the "good"...

    28 Aug 2025

171km yesterday along Petit Trail! Went north past Labelle, past Nominigue. All new exploration past Labelle. Trail has some rough spots but manageable - avoid the orange paint! And the bord du lac by lac Nominigue needs to be redone.

That said - beautiful ride! Now I can put on my 2025 GCC bike shirt and hope.

  • 1000km mark today??
    27 Aug 2025

Late night drive into Mont Tremblant means a late start today. Summer heat is gone for now. Chilly start 10C with high of 20C.

Long ride north on Petit Trail (should be flat) toward Mont Laurier. Out and back - i am getting g older I need to see things twice before they are embedded! Hoping for 170-180km.

Had a nice spirit lifting donation today- always great to get more help for kids and the battle against cancer toward the end of the August Challenge!

Hope to get a few pictures today. Need to remember - usually I get riding and get lost in my own brain.

    19 Aug 2025

Found a great weather day, a bit windy from east/ south but much preferred to 30+ degrees with 80% plus humidity!

And for the record, passed through Egypt today and I was in Ontario...

  • Should hit 500km mark tomorrow
    15 Aug 2025

45km spin today. Bit of a crazy week. My 56cm road bike has automatic shifting, battery tanked (8 yrs old). Will take about 2 weeks to order/ install.

Took the back up 54cm bike off indoor trainer and put it on the road for ride today. Went well. Big test on Monday, cooler weather - so aiming for 150+ km ride. Hoping a 100 miler. That would be longest since Ironman 35 yrs ago.

    Tomorrow is 60km.

For all you kids - when I think about stopping on Monday because I am tired, I will think of you and keep going. And I will ponder Audrey Taylor, a life too short and a life lived well!

  • Year 5 Kilometers Keep Rolling By
    10 Aug 2025

Today was an easy spin of 40km+ after the challenge of the Nordet on Friday, 137km to St Donat with about 1400M of climbing. Saved my legs by spinning in lower chain ring in front gear.

Wild life count on Nordet, 5 wild turkeys, 3 different spots. Seemed pretty disinterested in me - which is great. One white tail deer who must have been surprised to see me coming up the hill, a big snort (not heard that from a deer before and about 4 bounds before she was back in forest.

Think I am over 500km to date, so if all goes well, no injuries/ crashes - i could hit 700+ by end of next week

Pretty sure my Mom would think I am crazy...it would be even crazier, is that a word? - to give every kid a chance to live crazy like I have had the opportunity to do.

    Smile, breath, find the good...
