Families with kids fighting cancer don’t get to “choose” good, sunny weather days … so Mika and I rode today despite Mother Nature insisting on keeping us wet & cold. Had we just waited 24 hours … ⛅️🙃🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ Glad we showed our true grit and determination. Thank you all for your help and support! I’m almost at 400kms … tomorrow 💪🏻🚴🏻♀️🤞🏻
Today is Kick Cancer’s Butt day for the Great Cycle Challenge. Each donation today will be matched up to $1,300,000 by the very generous Garron Family. Sick Kids and their fight against childhood cancers is very near and dear to the Garron family.
Michael Garron died at the age of 13 in 1975 of a rare form of cancer. Before he died, he told his mother that he was afraid he would be forgotten. “As long as I'm alive, no way will you ever be forgotten,” she replied. So on August 13th let’s all remember a remarkable little warrior. Thank you Garron family for everything you do to help healthcare 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Mika is my 11 year old neighbour who, when he heard about the GCC to help Sick Kids Hospital beat children's cancers, jumped in with both feet! "There are many people in my life that have had cancer, such as my mom, my grandma, and some of my friends. One of my best friends uncle just passed from cancer, and I want to raise money to find a cure." Wow, what a profound and powerful statement of commitment from a young man. I am honoured that the GCC has given me the opportunity to ride with my new young friend Mika. He is outstanding. I look forward to more rides with Mika.

On one hand today is day 1 of the Great Cycle Challenge but it is another tough day for the families with a loved one fighting cancer. Today, during my first ride, I thought about how very important it is for so many that together we help fund Sick Kids fight against cancer. I’m riding for my niece wee baby Julia, I’m riding for my Dad, I’m riding for friends. THANK YOU for helping me and Sick Kids kick cancers butt. LET’S GO!
Although there is still snow on the ground, it’s time to start thinking about the Great Cycle Challenge and riding for Sick Kids! This year I have a secret goal to surpass 500kms … if the weather cooperates I’d like to pedal 10 kms for each year I’ve been blessed to celebrate on this beautiful planet. Time to start training!
