Brenda
This will be my 8th year doing this ride for Brenda. She is still missed, and I can't help but think of the life she might have had if she had not been taken from us. Her life was too short, and too much of the time she had was spent in hospital beds. I do this challenge to bring awareness to, and raise money for the kids who continue to find themselves in that situation. Let's do what we can to make their lives a little better. For Brenda.
My Story
This August I will be riding to raise money for the Sick Kids Foundation. They do amazing work that is incredibly important. Follow the links here and read more about what they do.
Cancer robbed my family of someone special when I was a kid. She was my aunt, but she wasn't much older than me. Growing up in the same house, she was more like a best friend and sister to me. Losing Brenda was traumatic for the whole family and it left emotional scars that I'm still trying to heal from.
Brenda spent a lot of her time in the hospital. Like so many children with terminal cancers, the hospital became her home. The Sick Kids Foundation helps children like Brenda to have the best life they can possibly have, even when they are struggling with a terminal illness. It's not just about finding cures, it's about reducing suffering and bringing some joy to the lives of sick kids.
This year my sister in-law is fighting cancer, so this ride is also for Kim, Ron and Sawyer.
